Nicolay Davydenko finished 2009 ranked No. 6 in world and in the top 10 for the fifth consecutive year and having just defeated Raphael Nadal and Roger Federer to claim another ATP World Tour Title in Qatar to make him only the third player, currently active on the ATP Tour, to have successfully defeated both Federer and Nadal in the same tournament on separate occasions.
Davydenko's been called the "Machine" by his fans, due to his style which is very hard-hitting as he get's to the ball early and strikes it on the rise, always playing from the baseline and famous for incredible footwork. After his defeat in London at the Master Series World Championship, Juan Martin Del Potro commented that watching Davydenko was similar to watching the robot character on a "Playstation" because he can go from side to side and hit every shot as hard as any player on the tour.
